President Sassoli remembered for his commitment to solidarity and public service

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of European Parliament President David Sassoli. Our deepest condolences are with his family and all who had the pleasure of working with him and knowing him. At the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis, President Sassoli offered EP offices to provide shelter for vulnerable women. Between May and August 2020, 279 women were sheltered in the European Parliament's Helmut Kohl building in Brussels. The testimony of these women was depicted in the temporary exhibition “FEMMES” at the Parlamentarium. Calling it an act of solidarity and public service, he affirmed in his opening speech that “public institutions must be close to citizens, especially to the weakest and most vulnerable.”
