About our institution

School of Advanced Social Studies (SASS) was established in 20016 is an independent higher education institution, located in Nova Gorica (Slovenia), on the western border with Italy. SASS is internationally connected leading national centre of excellent social science education and research, but at the same time strongly embedded in local and regional business and administrative environment. It is conducting high-level basic research and relevant applied research for businesses and public administrations at local and national levels and has good cooperation with civil society.

 

SASS is providing degree-awarding courses at undergraduate, masters and Ph.D level in social sciences. Currently the school has 455 students at all levels of study, 71 members of academic staff (26 full time) and 11 members of administrative staff (2019/2020). 

The activities of the SASS are guided by strategic orientations towards interdisciplinary areas, internationalisation, excellence and applicability in teaching and research. In terms of measurable scientific achievements per registered researcher, SASS is currently a leading social science institution in Slovenia.

SASS has extensive experience with management and implementation of international and EU co-funded project.

 

SASS is embedded in relevant international research networks, and it is hosting the National Committee of the UNESCO-sponsored programme, “Management of Social Transformations” (MOST2).
